On Saturday night Maverick Racing began their new Modified Sedan journey years after Peter Fitzpatrick finished, the next generation of Maverick Racing Lachlan headed up to Heartland Raceway in Moama for a shakedown in preparation for the first round of the Victorian Modified Promotional Association season at a Mildura.

The aim at Heartland was to pick up on any changes required and get used to competition and car handling before having a crack in round one. In a small five car field and competing on a track he had never turned laps on Fitzpatrick finished the first heat without any damage and with a couple of changes the team wanted to try

The next heat Fitzpatrick started and finished in second place and one half of the team principals Kellie was delighted. “We just wanted Lachy to build some confidence and tell us how the car handled and maintaining his second place start was a wonderful result. He got out of the car feeling good about it and that is a great result.” Shared Kellie

The race track went away a little by the time the final was due, the Sprintcars category had worn through it a fair bit. The team admit the choices of changes for the final didn’t work out and Fitzpatrick started and finished fourth. Kellie again. “We got the changes wrong for the final, however we have noted what didn’t work on this type of race surface and we will remember that if we get those conditions down the road. We will prep the car for Mildura now. The competition with thirty cars is going to be intense. However we just want to set little goals through the night and qualifying for that nights final would be terrific.
