Alexandra Speedway Club held their latest race meeting on March the 25th whilst under threat of possible rain all day, in the end rain did wash out the meeting after all the qualifying racing had been done and winners were determined on points to be Brad McClure, Ricky Cornwall, Warrick Howie and Luke Fallon.
Street Stocks were the main act of the night in a warm up before their Victorian title event at the same venue at Easter and the likes of Brad McClure, Lenny Bates, Scott Bull, Shaun Henry and Russell Hill who will all compete in the title had come to get their set ups correct after recent track changes had been made.
Four qualifying races for the intended final were run with McClure winning two of the three heats he competed in and Jacob Mills and Russell Hill winning the other two, the latter in a almost track record one lap speed missing out by just .190 of a second in setting a new record.
Jacob Mills who was on re-con for Mark Jennings who will be racing the title in April, had a second, a win and a second and that was good enough to put him on the podium and a smile on the face of the car owners.
McClure was awarded the win after the rain pelted the venue and washed all hope of finals way with Mills second, then Bates, Bull and Hill rounding out the top five.
In the Junior Sedans it seems a recent head shave as a result of racing over $2000 for the Shave for a Cure charity has done Ricky Cornwall wonders. His new streamline haircut help him pave a way through the field in heats to two seconds and a first and a top of the points result over Kasey Garlick, Jeremy Gorski, Courtney Meakins and Luke Dingley.
Luke Fallon in the Sports Sedans booked in a win and two seconds on his way to securing the top qualifier and points win over Steve Kershaw. Andrew Jordan, Jack Van Bremen and Dale Smith rounded out the top five in a very competitive field that unfortunately seen one of the new stars of the class Shane Kruger, end up with a wrecked car.
In Standard Saloon racing a late nomination from the new Victorian Champion Warrick Howie made things tough for the others as he picked up three heat wins qualifying for the pole position. The Standards were the only class able to complete their final before the rain and Howie who elected to start at the rear of the field rounded up those ahead of him on his way to a win over Allan Poole, Sara Benson and her father Victor with Leigh Mitchell rounding out the top five.
Howie was the fastest Standard Saloon in both one lap time which was 22.919 and eight lap race time in which he set a 3 minute 10.853 second result. In Street Stocks Russell Hill recorded a 22.498 one lap time and McClure heat two win was an eight lap time of 3 minutes 19.940.
Andrew Jordan locked in the fastest one lap time and eight lap race time of the night with in Sports Sedans with his one lap time a 21.382 and heat four time of 2 minutes 55.779 and finally in Junior Sedans Kasey Garlick was the fastest over one lap with 23.936 and making it a great night for the girls Courtney Meakins time in the fourth heat over eight laps was 3 minutes 23.117 and the fastest for the Juniors on the night.
Racing returns at Easter with the Victorian Street Stock title event attracting fifty cars to compete over two nights of racing.
