Nagambie Speedway hosted the latest Crash and Bash Association show with both the Girls and the Boys in action across a two day show and the Young Family picked up the double with Leanne winning the Saturday Ladies feature and Jake in the same car winning the blokes battle on Sunday, mum and son had done the family proud.
Qualifying for the Ladies was dominated by Linda Sinclair and Leanne Young with three heat wins each on the way to sorting out the starting line up for the fifteen final. Sinclair had a biggest win of just over fourteen seconds whilst Young’s best win was over fifteen and a half seconds.
Fast laps for the Ladies in heat racing hovered around the 40.6 to 40.9 range with Maleah Brown the fastest on track.
Conditions for racing where at its best by the time the feature race started and Sinclair took to the lead early. With Alyssa Montabello pouncing to take the lead on lap five. It wasn’t until lap six that Young reached the lead and Montabello chased.
In the field Mel Brown, Sharron Morrison & Bianca Brown were having fun whilst early casualties in the race were Victoria Warren, Airielle Wollmer and Sarah Williams.
On lap twelve Sinclair moved back into second place and with three laps to go Young managed to keep her distance out front and win by twelve seconds at the chequered flag from Sinclair, Montabello, Mel Brown, Morrison, Bianca Brown and Bronwyn Miles. Young set a fast lap time of 38.200 during the final whilst in heats the fastest heat race was won by Sinclair over eight laps at 5 minutes 37.259
Wollmer unfortunately t-boned a competitor wrecking her radiator and her race as she sat back and watched the others, however she had a blast though. For Maleah Brown the fastest in the heats, she didn’t get to start; a Watts link broke and could not be sorted and fixed before the feature started.
Competing in three heats each on Saturday the guys had a bit of a juggling act on Sunday, trying to keep their cars in good shape for the girls and score points themselves to stay up the front end of the field for their final on Sunday.
James Kane back after his roll over at Nyora won an amazing heat in the first round by almost the smallest possible margin, his victory was just .128 of a second after eight gruelling laps. Frank Sinclair and Matthew Haby won the next two races whilst Lennie Bonnici, Daniel Jorgen and Jake Young completed the six heat winners on day one.
Young also set the fastest eight lap race time of 4 minutes 56.482 seconds in the last heat of the day circulating at around 37 seconds a lap average.
The fastest lap on the first day was Haby with a 28.992 in the third heat and the top five after six heats was Haby, Young, Jorgen, Rob Bushell and Rick Pedler returning after a absence from racing with the latter two hunting a heat win on Sunday.
Ryan Brown kicked off the second days racing with a win in just his second meeting in his new car with Jorgen picking up his second and third heat wins of the weekend before Pedler took victory in the last qualifier and setting the fastest one lap time of the weekend with a 28.487 lap.
A forty lap feature awaited the competitors with Jimmy Brown, Rob Disher, Ryan Brown and Andrew Corlett the only four drivers unable to start the feature race.
Brad Warren who the night before was racing Sprintcars in Horsham ran the Sunday heats and qualified to start from twelfth place and after his exploits at Nyora and with the distance of the race, that was no huge barrier for Warren to contend with.
Jorgen looked strong on the back of his three heat wins and when the green flag signalled the race was on he jumped to the lead and on the dog leg circuit led lap one. Pedler crowned off his return to racing with a lap in front on lap two to lap six before Jorgen came back past and to the front of the field.
Haby then assumed control on before Young took over on lap fourteen and keen to back up on his recent Nyora victory. It took thirty one laps before Warren would make it to the front of the field only to be challenged again by Young on lap thirty nine, everybody hit the target on the #84 car with Warren being spun a few times as he tried to keep the car pointed forward.
When the chequered flag dropped Young was a three and a half second winner from Jorgen who came back after falling back through the field, Warren was third, Haby, Shannon Mair and Sinclair who was a few laps down. Daniel Williams, Justin Prins, Alan George, Kane, Bonnici, Andrew Miles, Trent Cauchi, Mark Hebblethwaite, Pedler, Bushell, Steve Brown and James Carden – David all competed.
Cauchi cooked an engine and broke the rear axle stud, Kane has had overheating problems and blew out the radiator to end his race, Pedler lost a radiator cap but showed that he is still a top runner in the class, Bonnici broke the wheel studs on the left front, Miles had fuel pressure concerns, Hebblethwaite broke an axle, Jimmy Brown broke the left front suspension and Ryan Brown had a stuffed welsh plug.
